For years, many of us have been working across universities, classrooms, research initiatives, and community projects, driven by a shared passion for environmental Earth science. In conferences, field campaigns, and collaborative efforts, we’ve seen firsthand how science can connect people across borders, empower the next generation, and provide tools to better understand and care for our planet.
From these experiences grew a vision: to create a space where citizen scientists, educators, researchers, NGOs, industries, and individuals can collaborate openly and meaningfully on the environmental challenges of our time.
That vision has now taken shape as the Next Generation Global Collaboratory, Inc., an independent nonprofit incorporated in New York. Through data democratization, open science, and innovative partnerships, the Collaboratory seeks to build stronger connections, expand opportunities for participation, and spark new pathways for discovery and impact.
Our story is about coming together around a joint passion — Earth, its systems, and its future — and creating a platform where collaboration drives innovation, education, and lasting change.
Community science empowers people everywhere to take part in discovery and problem-solving. By contributing to data democratization, we make knowledge accessible and actionable. Global Data Rescue leads the creation of the world’s largest compendium of environmental data at risk of being lost. By preserving and unlocking this invaluable information, we ensure that scientists, educators, and communities worldwide can access the knowledge needed to understand our planet and respond to emerging challenges. Acting with urgency, we safeguard data before it disappears, transforming fragile records into lasting resources. Our vision is a living legacy of open environmental knowledge that empowers future generations to protect and sustain the Earth.
